5 Step Induction

There five essential steps to a successful self-hypnosis session.

I practice self-hypnosis every day, and although there are many variations around I find most to be cumbersome with unnecessary added steps. Here are the essentials you need to get started right away.

Keep in mind, hypnosis is not some mystical thing you have no control over. In fact it’s the opposite. Self-hypnosis sessions work to alter the programming in your subconscious mind–the part of your mind that controls what you do, say, act, and feel in life.

Have you ever wished life could be better in some aspect or another? Yet, even when you gave an honest effort to attain these goals you ended up stuck in mud like this car?

Well, let’s get you out of that metaphorical rut and back on the fast track with these tips!

I recommend your programming be done in 21 day increments for maximum benefit. Also, you want to leave a time gap of at least 1 minute before beginning your induction to settle in and at least 30 seconds before moving on to each new step.

1. Be in a safe environment

This sounds obvious, but it’s critical. The nature of what’s going on “behind the scenes” during a session causes your mind to be more relaxed & suggestible. You want to avoid any interruptions including phones, television, & people. Ideally, you want to block out 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted time.

2. Induction

I like to think of this section as a cool down for your mind. It can be any story or illustration that calms and relaxes you. Popular inductions involve tranquil settings like the beach or forest. It doesn’t need to be long. Some of my inductions can be as short as 2-3 minutes while others may last up to 10 minutes. The only rule is that the story must be something that calms you and does not excite you. So, go ahead and skip the roller coaster induction idea. It’s also very important to incorporate as many sense as you can. For example, a beach induction may illustrate the sounds of the crashing waves, the smell of the salty air, the breeze gently caressing your body, etc. You get the point? Immerse yourself here. There is no hypnotic effect during the induction other then to prepare you mind for programming.

3. Deepening

The deepening is an extension of the induction phase, and involves downward motion signifying a deeper state of relaxation and hypnosis. A few examples of deepening could be the sun setting over the horizon or a leaf in a river flowing downstream. You want the deepening to match the story of the induction for cohesiveness. Typically you count down from 10 with each second bringing you closer and closer to maximum relaxation and hypnosis.

4. Programming

Now the fun begins! The programming is a straight forward set of instructions for your subconscious to obey. There needn’t be any fluff or fillers in this section. Mean what you say and say what you mean. You want to avoid ambiguity and state things in the positive. So, if you’re broke and want to earn more money, rather than saying, “I don’t want to be broke.”, you could say something like, “I will earn ten thousand dollars by March 15th.” Have fun with this and go big. Do not put limits on what you think you can achieve. Tips for maximizing your programming would be to add dates that you should accomplish your goals. Address any limiting beliefs and replace them with more empowering ones. This is truly where the magic happens.

5. Trance Termination

We’ve made it! It’s time to end your self-hypnosis session. Now that you’re mind is juiced up you have to order it to forget everything that just took place. I know it may sound crazy, but there is a perfectly good reason behind this. As you start to incorporate self-hypnosis in your daily or weekly routine, you may often find yourself thinking about your programming consciously. Maybe you’re in your car one day driving to work, and you get to a stop light and start to think about your huge goals and dreams. This is where most people will start to self sabotage. They’ll say things like, “I could never earn that amount of money. EVER!” This is why amnesia is vitally important at this stage of your session. It allows you to simply forget what was said consciously so you don’t think about it during the day. Trust me when I say that I’ve listened to my own hypnosis recordings and to this day couldn’t tell you what is on them. And they were created by ME! Simply saying, “Whenever I attempt to recall this hypnosis session I choose to forget to remember or remember to forget.”, is sufficient. Once completed, you can count to 3. You will remind yourself that each number is slowly bringing you out of hypnosis, and on the count the last number you will be completely awake and alert. You should raise your voice with each number until you are at normal speaking voice and tone.

I hope I provided value for you with this post! Let me know how it goes and what you think.
